The personal pronouns are:
IO: I
TU: you
LUI: he
LEI: she
NOI: we
VOI: you
LORO: they
Unlike in English, personal pronouns aren’t always necessary in Italian, so they are often omitted.
For example in Italian we can say:
(NOI) PARLIAMO ITALIANO
We speak Italian
(IO) SO SUONARE IL PIANOFORTE
I can play the piano
We generally use the pronouns when the subject of the sentence needs to be specified to avoid misunderstanding and to make the meaning clearer, as in these examples:
IO MI CHIAMO SARA, LEI SI CHIAMA CLAUDIA
(My name is Sara, her name is Claudia)
NOI SIAMO ITALIANI, LORO SONO FRANCESI
(We are Italian, they are French)
Another thing to notice is that there is no equivalent for the pronoun IT.
